Beauty And The Beast
It seems that I have been writing a lot about my own personal journeys lately. I hope you don’t mind another one! About 2 months ago I decided that I wanted a convertible car, so I started my research on what kind of car I would like and what kind I could afford. What I found was that there are not a whole lot of choices in convertibles. The one that I fell in love with first was the Honda s2000 Roadster. What a gorgeous car. It is real sporty looking, and handles well on the road. IT is quite noisy when you are inside, but who cares. The drawbacks for me was the cost. It comes fully loaded for $52,000! This is way out of my budget at this time. Other great looking Roadsters is the Nissan 350Z. Now this is the car my boys would love for me to have and of course they would want to drive it. The 350Z Roadster starts at about $50,000 , once again out of my league. The Pontiac Solstice, A real snarkie looking car, it starts at about $32000.Another great little sports car is the Saturn Sky. It looks awesome, priced around $36,000.Porsche or BMW.. didn’t even look at. I would be getting way over my head with those cars!
As I sat inside and looked closely at these roadsters I realized that they are too small. There isn’t enough trunk space and if fact there is NO TRUNK SPACE! MY shopping trips to Seattle couldn’t handle it. I couldn’t imagine leaving such a sharp car at home because it didn’t have the room for me and all my parcels!
Well, my dream was beginning to fade, until I started looking at the convertibles with 4 seats.
The first one I looked at and drove was the Pontiac G6 Convertible. Sharp looking vehicle and it handled well on the road. It didn’t mess my hair, not that this is a factor especially wanting a convertible,it also had a lot of power. Price tag of about $42,000. I thought maybe I found the car of my dreams only to find out that my husband and boys don’t like North American cars.
So I kept searching. The Toyota Solara was a nice looking 4 seater convertible but not quite sporty enough for me. Sebring, well didn’t really like the look at that car. Corvettes and Mustangs. “too much car for me” according to the boys.
Then I found the car of my dreams at the auto show in Vancouver, the Volkswagon EOS Convertible. It has a hard top as well as a sunroof and it is very impressive! Good gas mileage and quality car! This was a car that the whole family could agree on. I know, I know, it was going to be my car but it was important to me that my husband and boys really liked my choice. This car is about $44,000 fully loaded. I can’t decide if I like the silver or black one. Apparently it takes 6 months to a year to get one as you have to order it. There are very few kicking around.
Now that I have found the car of my dreams I have to make it a reality but the real question is , “Can I afford it?” It depends on how hard I am willing to work or how much extra I need to work in the 2 careers I have.It may be a good motivator. Stay tuned to see if I end up with this fabulous car. So where does the title “Beauty and the Beast” come in? Well a beautiful car (or the ones I like) come with a “beast” of a price.I most overcome that beast!
